Behind the Image
My love of woodland photography has been something of a constantly developing process. My appreciation for spending time in native woodland areas within Ireland is, I find, a wholesome experience. At the time of writing, we have barely 2% native woodland coverage within Ireland, sadly the lowest within Europe so any fostering of areas with native growth is a joy to spend time in. This particular Silver Birch caught my eye on a morning spent in Portumna Forest Park, the first photograph of the day and probably my favourite from that morning. I always make a concerted effort during Autumn to visit native woodland areas and capture the natural beauty of the autumnal transitions of colour, where depending on the type of light, can shout loudly and vibrantly, or display delicate muted pastel tonalities.
