Behind the Image
I would consider Glassilaun Beach to be one of my all-time favourites in Ireland, and how could it not be? For one of the lesser visited areas of North-West Galway, Glassilaun is its stand-out gem. An arced bay, with tropical waters so clear it’s renowned for snorkelling & scuba diving alike, to the rising giant of Mweelrea, the highest mountain in Connacht at 814m and the two separated by one of Ireland’s few but most famous Fjords; Killary. I have photographed here many times from the shore which has satisfied my enjoyment of seascapes but with the right conditions and a favourable wind from the North presenting clearer skies, the opportunity to capture this incredible location from an aerial panorama, really reveals the wonderful rugged combination Ireland is so well known for.
