Tourmakeady Falls
Tourmakeady Falls
Under the leafy canopy of Autumnal Beech & Oak, lies a small waterfall nestled in the heart of Tourmakeady Woods in Co. Mayo.
Behind the Image
After receiving the backlash from Hurricane Kirk and an inordinate amount of rainfall for 24 hours previously, the calm after the storm came to fruition with a bright day of sunshine and calm weather during a visit to Tourmakeady Woods. This place was on my radar for some time and being one of the few native woodlands in Ireland I knew the opportunity to capture the vibrant colours that so rarely have an opportunity to be on display would fall within a limited window due to the ever-increasing likelihood of poor conditions. The woodland has ample small scenes to capture the native Beech & Oak throughout but the obvious attraction is the waterfall that lies at the end of the official trail. While still early in October, there had already been a transition of colour into the familiar oranges & reds that catch the eye and fortunately for me, these just so happened to be right in front of the falls and with some time spent carefully adjusting my composition, managed to frame the flow of the falls succinctly.
