Behind the Image

For the longest time, I had been keen to capture my own interpretation of this famous plinth on the Co. Mayo coastline. Its imposing size juxtaposed with the vast empty horizon of the Atlantic Ocean called for a long exposure to show its true lonely state in this remote corner of the county. I was fortunate enough to be able to capture this image as a visiting French film crew was in the midst of their recording upon my arrival, exactly where my research had identified I should set up! But I was in luck as they wrapped shortly after I arrived, with my one and only shot I managed to capture just before the sun became obscured by cloud, it transpired in this rare occasion where a single image sufficed.
