Burren Rise
Burren Rise
A freezing March morning amongst the iconic limestone landscape of the Burren, Co. Clare. The stark terrain encompasses a reserved level of beauty and fragility to all life forms that live there.
Behind the Image
Hitting the road early before sunrise, I knew that the perfect combination of a sunny day and plummeting nighttime temperatures would lead to a high likelihood of fog further inland the following morning. Indeed, the drive toward the Burren was met with various waves of dense fog and upon arriving, the icy conditions made the air so incredibly crisp and still. The sun began to rise quickly, however, what little amount of fog had occurred in the vicinity dissipated rather quickly during another composition I was considering. I wanted to capture multiple components of the landscape while embracing the peaceful conditions of the freezing conditions I found myself in. Embracing a foreground of sparse fauna, almost trapped in time emerging from the lake, looking out toward Mullaghmore and the sun’s morning glow, seemed to encapsulate all the elements of this region and that morning perfectly.
