The sun starts to dip below the horizon as the last of its rays light up the valleys and mountains of Killary and the Maumturks to the right and the Twelve Bens on the left. Facing North West from Letterbreckaun, Mweelrea can be seen cloud-capped in the distance in the center leading down to Killary Fjord with Lough Fee to the left.

Behind the Image
On another hiking and camping excursion on top of Letterbreckaun, I was faced with powerful winds charging through this incredible landscape. Barely capable of keeping my tripod in place as the sun broke through the clouds, I was fortunate to capture this sunset over some of the most dramatic scenery on offer in northwest Connemara.
