Behind the Image
Arriving at this familiar place on a well forecasted morning, I was fully sure to be in the company of other photographers. Surprisingly, this was not the case and I had the blissful tranquility of the location entirely to myself. On one of those mornings where I had composed the entire mountain scene, I was taunted by the weather. The sun ignited beautiful cloud formations to both the left and right-hand sides of my composition, with stark bland skies above the mountain peaks ahead. This remained the case all morning and I chose to reconfigure my composition significantly, opting for the isolation of the right-most tree. In combination with passing cloud cover and the sun’s rays eeking through, I waited for the right moment for the mountain background to remain in shadow while the crisp winter sunlight illuminated these indigenous trees.
