Behind the Image

I have a fascination with Scots Pine, I’ll admit. Having noticed their sparse occurrence and sparing spread of them around the west coast of Ireland, their ancient characteristics really conjure one’s imagination of how prevalent ancient Irish forestry would have looked across the island of Ireland prior to their decimation. Having frequented this particular location numerous times, and the weather forecast looking favourable, once again I found myself surprised to have the entire location to myself, surprising, given the ease of access to this vantage point. The air, on this particularly cold spring morning, was incredibly still. My intention was selecting a composition of this beautiful Scots Pine that was flattering not only to it but also to its location. With mirror-like reflections and rising mist as the sun rose, my challenge was capturing an idyllic moment before too much wind disturbed the water’s reflections, and too much sun burned off the ascending mist.
