Clare Island Lighthouse
Clare Island Lighthouse
The Lighthouse on Clare Island serviced for 159 years before it was decommissioned in 1965. She now operates as a private guesthouse.
Behind the Image
I have shot images countless times at the lighthouse on Clare Island. Every time I make the 3-mile walk I am greeted with a new scene due to the ever-changing Atlantic influence. This particular evening, incredibly dynamic clouds were lingering over Achillbeg, Mallaranny, and beyond as if preparing for the onslaught of an impending storm. What I love about this location is its changing vulnerability to the weather, be it proud overlooking 300ft cliffs with a long summer sunset or holding steadfast as it is assaulted with driving rain and gale-force winds, surviving day after day.
