Port a Chuaille
Port a Chuaille
The short pier of Port a Chuaille (Portaholia) reaches out into ferocious stormy conditions during storm Bella, December 2020. This southeast facing inlet has provided moorings for many generations of fishermen returning home with their catch on Clare Island.
Behind the Image
As a tumultuous 2020 drew to a close I was once again home on Clare Island where we were subject to the last storm of the year. Despite the howling wind and being assaulted with hail storms on my way to this location, the incredible dramatic clouds in the sky, changing by the second, made for a captivating sight as huge waves rolled into the southern shore of the island. This small pier reaching out to the southeast seemed but a mere glimmer of shelter in this long exposure.
