Croagh Patrick
Croagh Patrick
Soft winter light falls on the hillside of Knocknaveen, known locally on Clare Island as Glen Hill. Croagh Patrick is seen in the distance with Mweelrea dusted in snow to its right.
Behind the Image
Forever looking back towards the mainland, these views hold a special place to any islander. The particular view from Clare Island tends to be the most striking as it looks towards the iconic Croagh Patrick and the rest of the Maumturks ending at Mweelrea, an inspirational sight if giving oneself the time to absorb it all. This particular evening was captured during a somewhat routine annual winter hike up Glen Hill with family. The days are short and the weather ever-unpredictable during this time of year, but upon returning down the mountain, soft subtle glimmers of sunlight eke through the clouds onto the hillside while Croagh Patrick standards clear toward the horizon.
